Lost wax casting and fabrication are the tecniques used in embedded
Probably every person who has worked with stones and metal has longed for the possibility to insert the stone directly into the metal without the obtrusive interference of prongs or bezels. Embedded is my personal fulfillment of this longing. I am very satisfied with this line of jewelry creations.
Lost wax casting
In lost wax casting one begins with a wax model. The model is joined to a wax stick or sprue. The sprue is attached to a base inside of a metal cylinder. Plaster is poured over the model and sprue. The sprue is the escape route of the wax and the path of entry of the metal. The wax is melted out of the mold leaving a cavity into which is forced the melted metal. The mold must be broken to recuperate the cast object. Both the wax model and the mold are lost in this technique.
Fabrication
Fabrication is the direct forming and soldering of metal sheet and wire. The basic tools include hammers, pliers, saws, files and the rolling mill. The metal is cut and shaped and the various pieces are soldered together to create the object. Frequently fabricated elements are added to a cast piece.
The materials used in the rings and pendants are fine silver, 18K yellow gold, 24K gold, beach pebbles and leather.
